THIS JUST IN — We the DEAF DEMOCRATS editors got a forwarded e-mail message from one of our readers, and it opened like this:

“David Wylie is running for KY Senator for 2008! He graduated from Ohio School for the Deaf in 1988.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!”

As this reader pointed out, it was not certain which party in Kentucky David Wylie was running as a candidate for. Nevertheless, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you, David Wylie!! You can read more about him at David Wylie for Senate.

Are there any other Deaf & Hard of Hearing candidates running for office? Do let us know!!

  1. Congratulation David!

Too bad, I dont live in Kentucky to boost your campaign. (That is if youre a democrat ~ Smile)
I do hope you get to share your experience after the campaign, especially with NAD members, it would be a wonderful learning experience for all of us.

    Hi BJ,

We the DEAF DEMOCRATS editors did some research and found that David Wylie was a Democrat, one of several running in the Democratic Party Senate primary. News reports have called him a “deaf retired postal worker.”
    Thanks!

  2. Emory Dively of Minnesota ran for office in 2006 and lost. He is in the race again for this fall, 2008. Please check out his website at http://www.emorydively.com/

  3. Congratulations! Wish him the best luck in senate race. Nick

  4. This is great news! Congratulations and best wishes to him.

We have a number of deaf people who can become Congressional and state legislators if they are willing to give up their residences in D.C., MD, VA, CA, and NY and relocate to the Mid-West and Northwest in order to run!

  6. I once tried to run for politics. Whoah! It was a real learning experience. I tried to run for 2nd Dist, General Assembly seat of PA. That represents Erie, PA west side. At the time, I was laid off from work. Never did get my name on the ballot due to not enough signatures on petition. But, it was a learning experience I will treasure for a longtime. Who knows, I just might try again. Yes, we need more Deaf people to run for office.
